About the Book

“If We Were Girlfriends, This Is What I’d Tell You”
is a Christian based non-fiction book about life lessons that every teenage girl will face at some point in her life.  In this book, I give straight talk to young women about how to deal with issues of self-love and self-awareness, relationships, responsibility, and goal setting for the future.  I also provide real life examples for the reader to fully understand how these issues may apply to them specifically.  The book challenges
young women to find their God-given purpose, love and respect themselves, and be the best they can be.  I have included scripture references (and humor) because I believe no matter what your spiritual belief is, the Bible is a road map to how we should live our lives.  At the end of the book, I have provided a work section to help the reader take an introspective look at herself as she begins her journey to womanhood and to becoming a better person.

Excerpt 1 (on loving yourself)

Loving yourself is an essential element of self-respect.  By loving yourself, I am not encouraging you to be conceited, self-absorbed, or selfish.  To love yourself in a healthy way means you are not willing to allow someone to mistreat you inside or out.  It means that you believe you are important and demand that others treat you with respect and common courtesy.

Excerpt 2 (on relationships)

When someone respects you, they don’t hurt you with their lies.  They don’t hurt you with their hands. They don’t hurt you with their tongue by calling you names or saying mean things to you. And they don’t hurt you by neglecting you.

Excerpt 3 (on relationships)

Another aspect of relationships is choosing to be with someone who wants to be with you.  You should not go out there looking for a boyfriend and you certainly shouldn’t be with someone that has not first expressed a clear interest in you and only you.  That’s right, if you meet a guy who is in a relationship with someone else, but says he is interested in you, you need to give him time to resolve and dissolve that current relationship before he starts dating you.
